Welcome to Counselling Point
Problems can affect anybody at any time. There is
no shame in needing, or asking for help to get through a difficult
patch.
As a professional counsellor I have been trained to listen to your problems sensitively and with an open mind, to understand as fully as possible what is concerning you and how it's affecting your life. Without judging you or offering advice, counsellors can become more aware of what resources you have in place for coping and discovering healthier ways of dealing with difficult feelings, people or situations.
The fact that you have come to me for counselling, as well as anything you tell your counsellor, remains confidential.
Confidentiality is important in therapy. I adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics on confidentiality and would only consider breaking that confidentiality if:
There was disclosure of ongoing abuse/neglect of a child or vulnerable adult.
If it was considered that a client was a danger to him/herself or to others.
In situations where there is a legal obligation to do so (e.g. under the Terrorism Act 2000)
A counsellor would normally first discuss the
situation with the client, encourage him/her to participate in the
disclosure and support them in doing this.
I will not discuss what occurs in your therapy except in
supervision (in accordance with the BACP Code of Ethics).

About Ron Dean - Counsellor & Life Coach
In the recent past I have worked for the University
of Northampton and Leicester Counselling Centre. This has involved me in
working with clients with a range of problems. These have ranged from
stress, depression, loss, relationship and sexuality issues.
While employed for many years in the service industry, I held voluntary
capacities of Health Information Officer and Employee Assistance
Counsellor. The purpose of the former was to direct staff to an
appropriate agency in respect of their current problem(s). These were
likely not to be work related. The latter was to give help and guidance
in regard to bullying or harassment in the workplace.
Although not strictly counselling, from 1987 to 1989, I served as a
Samaritan, which requires keen listening skills and an empathic
countenance.
